The Mighty Womens Premier League team at Hawthorn went through the home and away rounds undefeated and they finished on the top of the ladder after a very impressive season. The finals series delivered their first loss for the season, going down in the first final to Footscray. But the girls were not going to give up easily. They defeated Greensborough in the second final 5 – 1, SUHC in the third final 4 – 2 and won the Grand Final v Mentone 6 – 5 (penalty shootout).
It was 1 all at the end of a very high standard and tense 70 minutes of hockey and it was a hushed crowd watching the shootout. Our players were clinical in their display of extraordinary skill to score from each penalty to come away winners 6 – 5.
This team has now won the Premier League GF three years in a row – what an incredible effort. We are all extremely proud of Jay and the players for once again bringing home the silverware.
