Vale – Helen Lawson

Hawthorn Hockey Club committee and players were saddened to hear of the recent passing of a former club member and team mate, Helen Lawson, to ovarian cancer.

Helen joined the club in 1991 and played an integral part in helping the State League 2 team be promoted to League 1 (now known as Premier League).

Some of her past team mates included Penny Costello, Lizzie Laird, Amanda Gillon, Shelley Holding, George Weber, Ngaire Smith and Emma & Sarah Storen.

An extremely powerful defender, Helen was renowned for her lightning hits and clean tackles from impossible angles.

She became a committee member in 1993 and the club Treasurer in 1994. Won the League 2 coaches award in 1993 was followed by the State League 1 Best & Fairest Award in 1994 (shared with Amanda Gillon).

Past team mates want to express their condolences and to remember a great Hawthorn player.
