In brilliant sunshine, the Hawthorn Hockey Club and Old Xaverian Hockey Club communities came together to participate in the Annual Jonathan Lugg Memorial Hockey Game on Saturday 20th February.
The bbq ran all afternoon thanks to the superb cooking skills of Kate Stebbings and Laura Desmet and they were ably assisted at the prep table by Izzy Rook and Bridget Laurance. Many thanks to these four wonderful club members for doing such a great job.
The Women’s game was played first and Hawthorn won the game 2 – 1. It was played in great spirits by all and it was fun to watch. Peter Lugg and Grenville Dawson were umpires for the game.
The Men’s game followed and Hawthorn were once again victorious. Mandy Lugg presented the cup and spoke about the importance of the day to not only the Lugg family but also both hockey clubs. Kenji Hinde accepted the trophy and spoke about the importance of supporting young people who may be suffering from a mental illness.
Thank you to everyone from both clubs for coming down to support the day in remembrance of Jonathan. Thank you also to all those who contributed to making the day such a success. All funds raised will be donated to the Black Dog Institute.
